A shackle pin is used to fix the leaf spring to the vehicle frame via a frame hanger. There are two types of shackle assemblies.

  1. Plain shackle pin
  2. Threaded end shackle pin

Shackle pin will used to fix the leaf spring to the vehicle frame via frame hanger. There are two types of shackle spring.

A leaf spring shackle pin typically involves several key components such as

  • Pin Body: The primary structure of the shackle pin is usually made from high-strength steel or alloy, ensuring durability and resistance to wear. The pin is often cylindrical and designed to fit tightly within the shackle and mounting brackets. There is a lubrication nipple which fitted at the end of this pin body, which allows the lubrication agent to flow for pin and the bushes.
  1. Head: The head of the shackle pin is typically wider than the pin body and serves to keep the pin in place. It prevents the pin from sliding out of the shackle, ensuring a secure connection between the leaf spring and the vehicle chassis / long member.

  2. Threaded End: Many shackle pins feature a threaded end that allows for the attachment of a nut or bolt. This design allows for easy installation and removal, enabling straightforward maintenance and replacement when necessary. Generally this is a wedge shaped in design for easy installation and better fitment.

  3. Bushings: Some shackle pins are equipped with bushings made from rubber or polyurethane material. These bushings reduce friction between the pin and the shackle, improving ride comfort and reducing noise during operation. They also help absorb shocks and vibrations, enhancing the overall performance of the suspension system.

The primary function of leaf spring shackle pins is to connect the leaf springs to the vehicle’s chassis / long member to allowing for vertical movement and load-bearing capabilities. The uses of leaf spring shackle pins include:

  • Support to suspension
  • Load Distribution between the axles

  • Vehicle Performance
